But these kids showed up - sometimes under the toughest of circumstances, but they showed up. The transition to remote education was tough, but the chorus, Ms. Lisa, and I shared laughs, music, and deep conversations twice a week online, and those moments undoubtedly helped me through some of my own personal toughest days during this long stretch. Along the way, the kids proved to Lisa and me and we hope most importantly, themselves , just how remarkable and resilient they really are.

And impossibly, they produced this, their coup de grace, one of the most poignant and heart-rending performances in PS22 Chorus history. The song is "The Scientist" by Coldplay, and it was one we were only starting to work on when we were interrupted by the pandemic. The kids learned the rest remotely and submitted their performances one at a time.

So as I write this with blurry eyes, I must say that my sadness upon this farewell performance is only overridden by my pride in these inspiring little humans, most certainly on their way, which EVER way their inidividual paths take them, to continue to make this world a more harmonious one.

Starring on social media is nothing new to the chorus. For years, the students have invited chart-toppers to the school for special performances, which have been posted to its YouTube channel. The chorus also has been involved in several national performances.
